The purpose of this program is to provide students
with the necessary skills for employment as a Pharmacy
Technician.
About the Course:
The Pharmacy Technician program requires 1050 hours
of instruction including classroom theory and lecture,
laboratory practice and clinical training. The program includes
the following:
Basic Healthcare
Worker:
This course provides students with the basic knowledge needed
for all health science careers. It covers basic knowledge of
health and wellness, communication and problem solving skills,
and laws and ethics. Teamwork and leadership skills are learned
and practiced.
Community Pharmacy
Technician:
In this course students will develop a knowledge of human body
structure and function, medical and pharmacy terminology, basic
computer skills, knowledge of inventory and purchasing and
pharmacy mathematics.
Pharmacy Technician I
and II:
Elements of this course will include pharmaceutical compounding,
IV and parenteral solutions, laboratory applications,
pharmacology, and proper use of laboratory equipment. Students
will spend time in clinical settings practicing skills.
Students completing the
Pharmacy Technician program will earn a certificate from their
instructor, be eligible for state licensure in compliance with
Florida Statute 465.014, and be encouraged to sit for a national
certification examination.
