Mission
Statement:
The purpose
of this program is to prepare students for employment as a medical
secretary, medical administrative specialist, unit secretary, office clerk, or
medical receptionist.
Description:
The
Medical Administrative Specialist (Secretary) program
develops a broad foundation of skills with an emphasis on employment
in a medical office environment. In one school year (1050 hours)
you will learn to:
- Perform
basic office computer tasks and functions.
- Develop
an employable keyboarding speed rate.
- Understand
and use medical terminology appropriately.
- Prepare
and maintain medical records following medical filing rules.
- Use general
office software for Microsoft Office Certification: Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
- Use specialized
medical office scheduling and billing software for patient
admissions and procedures: MediSoft and Medical Manager.
- Perform
medical office procedures with an emphasis on understanding
coding and billing.
- Understand
basic life skills, CPR and vital signs.
- Prepare
a professional resume portfolio
